Car Ferry

The car ferry connects Koh Lanta to the mainland via Hua Hin Pier, near Krabi Town, and is the main road access to the island.

  • Hours: 05:00 to midnight, daily
  • Car (driver included): 80 THB
  • Passenger: 60 THB
  • Late night (00:00-05:00): 1,500 THB

The car ferry runs year-round regardless of season.

High Season vs Low Season

The schedules above apply during high season, roughly November through April, when seas are calm and tourist traffic is at its peak. During low season (May through October), many speedboat routes see significantly reduced frequency or are suspended altogether. The southwest monsoon brings rough Andaman seas, and some operators stop running entirely for weeks at a time. The car ferry and some basic passenger services typically continue. Check directly with operators if you are travelling outside peak season.

Practical Tips

  • Arrive early. Aim to be at Saladan Pier 30 to 40 minutes before departure. Boats leave on time and can fill up.
  • Luggage goes in the hold. Keep valuables and anything you need for the crossing in a small bag. Larger bags are stored in the bow or under seats and can get wet.
  • Speedboats are faster but rougher. In choppy conditions they can be an uncomfortable ride. If prone to motion sickness, bring tablets and sit toward the middle.
  • Book ahead in peak season. February and March see high demand. Booking a day ahead or online avoids the risk of a sold-out sailing.
  • Where to buy tickets. Saladan Pier ticket offices, travel agencies around the island, hotel reception, or online booking platforms. Prices are generally consistent across channels.
