Thailand Raises International Airport Departure Charge from June 2026
Airports of Thailand (AOT) will increase the International Passenger Service Charge (PSC) from 730 Baht to 1,120 Baht per person, effective 20 June 2026. That is a rise of 390 Baht per person, roughly 53%, and it applies to all international departing passengers at six major Thai airports. If you are flying out of Thailand and buying tickets from that date onward, expect to pay more. Domestic flights are not affected.
What Is the Passenger Service Charge?
The PSC is a fee collected by AOT to fund airport operations, infrastructure, and passenger services. It is not a separate charge you pay at the airport. It is built directly into your airfare at the time of purchase, so there is nothing extra to do when you travel.
Which Airports Are Affected?
The new rate applies at all six AOT-managed international airports:
- Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok)
- Don Mueang (Bangkok)
- Chiang Mai
- Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai
- Phuket
- Hat Yai
Both Thai and foreign passengers on international departing flights will pay the higher rate.
What About Domestic Flights?
The domestic PSC stays at 130 Baht per person and is not changing. If you are hopping between Thai destinations, including flying into or out of Krabi on a domestic route, you will not see any difference.
Does This Affect Existing Bookings?
No. Tickets purchased before 20 June 2026 keep the old 730 Baht rate. Only tickets bought from 20 June 2026 onward will reflect the new 1,120 Baht charge. If you have already booked your flights home, you are not affected.
Why Is AOT Raising the Charge?
According to AOT, the increase supports airport operations, infrastructure development, technology upgrades, and passenger service improvements across its network. The additional revenue is intended to fund long-term capacity and service enhancements as international travel demand continues to grow. Planned projects include airport expansion, upgraded passenger facilities, and automated systems aimed at reducing queuing and improving operational efficiency.
What This Means for Your Travel Budget
For most travellers, the practical impact is around 390 Baht (approximately USD $11) more per international ticket purchased from 20 June 2026. If you have questions about how the charge appears in your ticket price, contact your airline or booking agent directly.
