Thailand's 2.45 Billion Baht Tourism Stimulus: What It Means for Visitors
Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports has announced three new schemes totalling 2.45 billion baht aimed at boosting both domestic travel and inbound tourism. Unveiled at the ministry's first public-private committee meeting on July 16, 2026, the package targets everything from hotel stays and domestic flights to international charter routes, with an expected economic return of 56 billion baht across all three initiatives.
Scheme 1: Thai Teaw Thai Plus (Domestic Accommodation Subsidy)
The largest of the three schemes, budgeted at 1.75 billion baht, offers Thai residents a 50% subsidy on accommodation costs, capped at 3,000 baht per booking. Each person can use up to five privileges in the initial stage, with 500,000 privileges available in total. Every qualifying booking also comes with a 500-baht coupon redeemable at restaurants, attractions, shops, car rental companies, or tour operators. All transactions must go through the Pao Tang app. The scheme is projected to generate 32 billion baht in economic activity and 1.66 billion baht in tax revenue.
Scheme 2: Fly Thai All the Feelings (Domestic Flight Discounts)
A 200-million-baht budget covers discounts on 400,000 domestic seats across six local airlines, allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers flying to first-tier cities save 400 baht per flight; routes to second-tier cities get a 600-baht reduction. The subsidy goes directly to the airlines rather than to travellers at checkout. Economic impact is projected at 1.6 billion baht.
Scheme 3: Thailand Air Connect (International Charter Subsidies)
Targeting inbound visitors, this 500-million-baht scheme subsidises 600 charter flights with a goal of bringing in 87,000 travellers. The subsidy rate varies depending on how full each flight is, with a minimum 80% load factor required to qualify. Alongside charter support, the scheme includes co-marketing with scheduled commercial airlines aiming to attract more than 400,000 additional overseas arrivals. Projected tourism revenue from this scheme alone sits at 23.2 billion baht.
Current Status
All three schemes are still awaiting approval. The proposal will go before the Joint Public-Private Consultative Committee for Economic Problem Solving, and the final budget source (fiscal year 2026 or 2027 central budget) has not yet been confirmed. Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said stimulus measures were crucial to driving the industry amid global competition and the economic climate.

If you hold Thai residency, the accommodation subsidy is worth watching closely: half off your hotel bill (up to 3,000 baht) plus a 500-baht spending coupon adds up quickly, provided you are set up on Pao Tang.
