Weather warnings across Thailand this week bring heavy rain risk to Krabi province, including Koh Lanta, with southwesterly winds and rougher seas expected on the Andaman coast. Here's what it means if you're on the island.
What's Causing It
A monsoon trough is moving from the upper North and Northeast down into a low pressure system over southern China. At the same time, a fairly strong southwest monsoon is sitting over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Together these are driving widespread rain and storms across the country. The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued the warning and flagged the risk of flash floods and forest runoff, especially near foothills, waterways, and low-lying land. Their advice: avoid routes that are prone to flooding.
Koh Lanta and Krabi Forecast
Krabi falls under the "South, West Coast" zone in the TMD forecast, along with Ranong and Phang Nga. Here's what's expected:

What This Means for Travelers
If you're staying inland or near hillsides on Koh Lanta, keep an eye on drainage and low-lying areas since runoff and flash flooding are a real possibility during heavy rain. It's worth avoiding roads that are known to flood after storms.
For anyone planning boat trips, island hopping, or ferry crossings, the forecast of around 2 metre waves (and higher during thunderstorms) along the Krabi coastline is worth factoring in. Boat operators should be keeping tabs on this too, so don't be surprised if some smaller boat trips get delayed or cancelled during rough patches.
The Bigger Picture
This isn't just a Krabi story. Other regions are facing even heavier conditions, with the North and Northeast seeing 70% storm coverage and heavy rain warnings for numerous provinces, and the East coast bracing for waves up to 2 metres with gusts of 20–35 km/h. Bangkok and the Central region are also expecting a good chunk of rain, with 60% storm coverage in both areas. It's a broad, multi-region weather event, and Koh Lanta's forecast fits into that wider pattern.
