Thailand Weather 15 October 2026: Heavy Rain in 19 Provinces, Easing Slowly

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts heavy rain in 19 provinces on 15 October 2026, with the Central, East and South regions hit hardest. That is down from 29 provinces on 13 October and 24 on 14 October, so the rain is easing, though it is still the tail end of the rainy season. Krabi (and so Koh Lanta) is not named among the heavy-rain provinces, but neighbouring Phang Nga is.

What is causing the rain

A high-pressure system from China covers the upper North, the upper Northeast and the South China Sea. Easterly and southeasterly winds are carrying moisture from the South China Sea over Thailand and the Gulf. This brings thundershowers with gusty winds to the North, Central, East and South.

Is Koh Lanta affected?

Krabi is not on the list of heavy-rain provinces, and the report gives no separate Krabi forecast. The Andaman coast provinces it does name are Ranong, Phang Nga and Satun. Phang Nga is right next door, so it is worth keeping an eye on the sky and the sea.

Hazards to know about

  • Accumulated rain may cause flash floods.
  • Overflows and landslides are possible near waterways and foothills.
  • Residents in affected areas should watch for flash floods near waterways and foothills.

Sea conditions

  • Gulf side (east): waves stay below 1 m, rising above 2 m in thundershowers.
  • South, east coast and west coast: waves reach about 1 m, rising above 2 m in thundershowers.

The TMD advises ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf to avoid thundershowers, where waves exceed 2 m.

What this means for travellers

  • Expect hot, humid days (30-36°C) with sudden thundershowers. Carry rain gear and plan outdoor activities for the mornings.
  • Avoid waterfalls, streams and foothill trails in the listed provinces because of flash flood and landslide risk.
  • Be cautious with boat trips and island hopping on the Andaman Sea (west coast) and the Gulf. Waves exceed 2 m in storms, so ferry and speedboat delays or cancellations are possible.
  • Allow extra travel time in Bangkok and the Central region because of showers and possible local flooding.
  • The rain is easing day by day (29, then 24, then 19 provinces), but it is still the tail end of the rainy season.
