Thailand Weather 17 October 2026: Heavy Rain Across the South, Including Krabi
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) forecasts heavy rain in 20 provinces today (17 Oct 2026). The Central region, the East and the South are hit hardest. The Andaman coast, which includes Krabi and so Koh Lanta, can expect scattered thundershowers and isolated heavy rain. Continuous rain and possible heavy to very heavy falls are forecast for 18 to 20 Oct, with rainfall increasing further from 21 to 25 Oct. Plan for disruption to boat trips and beach days, and keep your schedule flexible.
What is causing the rain
A weak high-pressure system from China covers the upper North, the upper Northeast and the South China Sea. Easterly and southeasterly winds carry moisture from the South China Sea into Thailand and the Gulf. This triggers thundershowers and isolated heavy rain in the Central region, the East and the South.
Today's count of 20 provinces with heavy rain compares with 21 provinces on 16 Oct and 19 provinces on 15 Oct.

The outlook: 18 to 25 October
- 18 to 20 Oct: Continuous rain, with isolated heavy to very heavy rain over the South and East.
- 21 to 25 Oct: Rainfall increases. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain and gusty wind spread to the lower Northeast and the Central region, including Bangkok. The East and the upper South also get the heavier rain.
Official warnings
The TMD advises people to beware of thundershowers, gusty wind and accumulated rain. There is a risk of flash floods, overflows and landslides, especially along waterways near foothills and lowlands. Ships in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf should steer clear of thundershowers.
What this means for visitors
- Andaman coast (Krabi, Phang Nga, Trang, Satun, Ranong): Expect rain and thundershowers today, and possibly heavy to very heavy falls from 18 to 20 Oct. This includes Koh Lanta (Krabi). Boat trips, island hopping and beach days may be disrupted.
- Ferries and speedboats: Waves above 2 m in storms mean delays or cancellations are possible. Check with your operator.
- Roads and hills: Flash floods and landslides are possible near foothills and waterways, so take care on roads and in hilly areas.
- Bangkok: It stays hot, up to 35°C, with afternoon-style showers. Heavier rain is expected there from 21 to 25 Oct, which could affect travel and flights.
- Drier options: The North and Northeast only get isolated showers.
- Packing and planning: Bring rain gear and keep plans flexible, especially from 18 to 25 Oct.
